SQI College of ICT, Ogbomoso, marked a landmark achievement on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, as the institution held its maiden Convocation Ceremony at its main campus along Old Ilorin Road, Ogbomoso. The event, which drew dignitaries from across Nigeria’s academic and technology communities, celebrated the graduation of 53 pioneer students, including five who graduated with distinctions.

The Rector, Dr. Sunday Adegbenro Ajani, speaking during a pre-event press conference, described the maiden convocation as “a historic turning point for an institution built on quality, innovation, and discipline.”

The Chairman of the institution, Dr. Adeyemi C. Aderinto, applauded the graduands for their resilience and encouraged them to uphold the values instilled during their training.

“Let your skills earn you more than a living; let them give life to others. Carry the SQI spirit with you—the spirit that believes anything is possible. Lead with integrity, innovate with compassion, and never stop learning.”

Reflecting on the college’s journey, Dr. Aderinto recounted how SQI College of ICT evolved from a modest one-room training centre in Ogbomoso into a fast-growing monotechnic with eight campuses nationwide. The institution, he noted, has trained over 70,000 Africans, many of whom now occupy leadership roles in global tech firms.

Another highlight of the event was the convocation lecture delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of Westland University, Iwo, Osun State, Professor Abimbola Adebisi Baale, who spoke on the theme:
“From Knowledge to Innovation: Bridging Minds and Machines to Lead the Global Digital Transformation.”

In her lecture, Professor Baale emphasised the importance of leveraging technology to solve societal problems and urged institutions like SQI to continue shaping Africa’s next generation of tech innovators. She further charged the graduands to embrace innovation and leadership.

“You are leaving here not as job-seekers but as job-creators. The world is waiting for your ideas. Go forth and bridge minds and machines,” she said.

Rector Dr. Ajani disclosed that many of the pioneer graduands have already secured admission into advanced programmes through HND and Direct Entry pathways. He described the graduating class as “ambassadors of excellence” who are well-prepared to compete globally.

He also unveiled the institution’s Best Graduating Students: Aderibigbe Victor Toluwani and Oyebanji Ayodeji Oyedapo, recognised for their outstanding performance and exemplary character.

Dr. Ajani highlighted several major achievements recorded under his administration, including:

  • full accreditation of all academic programmes;

  • expansion of international partnerships;

  • multiple awards and recognitions;

  • and sustained growth in student enrolment and graduate output.

He attributed these strides to the dedication of staff, partners, and the college’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

The maiden convocation ceremony attracted notable figures from academia, religious bodies, and public life, reflecting the institution’s rising profile within Nigeria’s higher education sector, including: Prof. Adeolu Afolabi, Dr. Kola Oladipo, Rev. Dr. Tayo Adeyanju, Rev. Taiwo Opajobi, Dr. Olamide Alao-Akala, and others.

The convocation also featured the presentation of academic performance statistics across the institution’s programmes.

In his closing remarks, the Rector expressed appreciation to the staff, students, alumni and the management board for their support in the accomplishment of the institution’s plans and intentions.

The ceremony not only celebrated the accomplishments of the pioneer graduates but also signalled the beginning of a new chapter—one that promises continued innovation, expansion, and impact for SQI College of ICT and its growing community.
